Will Stargirl herself, Brec Bassinger, be involved in more of Courtney Whitmore’s DC Comics adventures?

DC’s Stargirl was one of 2020’s most beloved new additions to the television landscape. Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, it stars Brec Bassinger in the titular role and found itself receiving critical acclaim last summer.

Fans quickly fell in love with Bassinger’s quirky and authentic portrayal of Courtney Whitmore as she attempts to launch a new generation of superheroes by reviving the Justice Society of America, all while trying to be a normal teenager struggling to fit in in the town her family just moved to.

It’s clear that she captured the essence of the character – so clear in fact that she made her comic book writing debut this year, writing a feature for DC’s Stargirl Spring Break Special. And it seems that she’d be up for writing more in the future.

Will Brec Bassinger write on more Stargirl comics?

Speaking to DC Comics in a new interview to promote Stargirl season 2, Bassinger discussed how her feature on Courtney’s new one-shot came about, revealing that Geoff Johns was the one who proposed the idea to her.

She jumped at the chance because she considers writing one of her “other loves” outside of acting and ultimately delivered three ideas based on the prompt she was given. Johns loved all three of them and included them all in the one-shot.

But could we see more Stargirl comics by Stargirl herself? Well, Bassinger definitely sounds hopeful. When asked about the possibility of writing on more of Courtney’s adventures in the future, she responded:

"“If I hear anything, I’m going straight up to Geoff and saying, “Hey, it was a hit last time. Let’s do it again.” So if I have any say, then yes!”"

Stargirl season 2 airs new episodes on Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
