X-Men: The Trial of Magneto starts off with an investigation and ends with a surprise.

X-Men: The Trial of Magneto was teased a few months ago. At first, we didn’t know what Magento was on trial for. However, we all assumed it would be for murder. Especially with one of the laws of Krakoa being to kill no man and Magneto’s temper can get the best of him (something that will be discussed later).

Then, in the final issue of the X-Men: Hellfire Gala, Wanda Maximoff (a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch) was found dead. In fact, the last very thing to take place in that series was Logan asking where Magneto was.

The X-Men’s investigation

The issue starts off with Daken, both Wolverines, Rachel Summers, Synch, Northstar, and Domino. They discovered that Wanda Maximoff didn’t use her magic because her hands were bound with something metallic. Meanwhile, Prodigy, Eye-Boy, Beast, Sage, Dr. Reyes and Polaris were doing an autopsy on Wanda’s body. They discovered that the cause of death was due to strangulation by means of supernatural magnetization. All of this leads to Magneto being declared their prime suspect.

There were other things that went into this investigation, but the leading causes seemed to all involve metal or magnetism. In some ways, this seems like an open and shut case. However, it’s never that easy, especially not with the X-Men.

Could Mystique be the one responsible? As this writer has stated before, she is the obvious choice and it certainly didn’t help her case when she egged Magneto on while the Quiet Council discussed resurrecting her.

Magneto vs the X-Men

Once Magento’s request for resurrecting Wanda was denied, he angrily left the Quiet Council meeting. Soon after, he was stopped by members of different Krakoan mutant team. They asked him to come quietly. Not so surprisingly, though, Magneto didn’t go without a fight.

It had been a while since we saw Magento in a battle. This may have led people to forget how powerful he is. However, with multiple mutants with various powers attacking him, Magento still held his own. It wasn’t until Quicksilver intervened that he was stopped. In fact, Magento is quite lucky. If Northstar didn’t step in, Quicksilver would have killed him.

Magneto’s outburst isn’t going to do him any favors. On top of that, Jean Grey can’t get into Magento’s mind while he’s in a coma. She said, “A nightmare can’t confess.” Although, when she looked inside Magento’s head, there was screaming. That doesn’t look like a guilty man. Furthermore, let’s remember that he wanted to bring Wanda back. Why would he do this if he was guilty?

Wanda isn’t dead

As this writer said earlier, nothing is ever easy when it comes to the X-Men. Especially when it comes to death. When Krakoa was established, they announced that mutants had conquered death with the resurrection protocols. It appears that Wanda Maximoff is defying it as well. The end of the X-Men: Trial of Magneto shows her alive. Well, kind of. Wanda is cut by someone wearing a white cloak with a hood. She says, “I died, and yet, I know that I am not dead.”

The visual of everything that happened to Wanda was artsy. She starts off in her normal costume, except it’s all white. Then, she’s stabbed. Her blood turned her entire costume red and red flowers came out of her wound. This is certainly some random chaos magic. There’s no way Wanda needed to be brought back by outside means. She’s powerful enough to bring herself back.

Krakoan Trial notes:

  • Xavier didn’t seem to care about resurrecting Wanda. While this writer doesn’t believe he’s involved, something is up here.
  • Northstar is not happy with X-Force being around X-Factor. It seems like he didn’t like people micromanaging his team and what they do.
  • It was nice seeing Logan, Laura, and Daken working together. This should happen more often.
  • What’s going on with the plants that took Wanda? Her son Tommy (a.k.a. Speed) seemed out of it when it took him and Northstar’s husband Kyle. Is Wanda doing this from beyond the grave?
  • It was cool seeing some of the Brotherhood of Mutants toasting to Wanda. A nice throwback to when they were a team.
