Matt Murdock?

There are couple of shots showing Peter, in handcuffs, protesting his innocence as he’s questioned by the police. Later, we see him looking through what looks to be several files of evidence brought to him by someone in a suit and tie. Either this is later during the interrogation or Peter has finally gotten himself some legal counsel. And there are rumors that Peter’s lawyer will be none other than Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox.

There’s three problems with this. First, why would Matt have ditched his suit coat and rolled up his dress shirt sleeves? Attorneys from small law firms and even public defenders have to look professional in front of law enforcement when it comes to representing their client. Second, why would Matt, as Peter’s attorney, keep slamming down paperwork in front of Peter? Shouldn’t they be arguing for Peter’s release? And third, we see what looks like an earlier image of this same person with the rolled up shirt sleeves and they are not wearing sunglass or, more importantly, carrying a white cane. There’s no indications showing this person is even blind like Matt. Therefore, this isn’t Matt Murdock; this is just another detective giving poor Peter the third degree.

That being said, it does seem as if Peter did get some kind of plea deal. Later scenes show him walking around his high school and at home. Either the charges have been dropped or he’s been let out on parole until his court date. Most likely it’s the later as there’s another shot of him in a suit and tie standing by a stern looking woman in car. It’s possible that could be another detective or a member of his legal counsel as provided to him by Stark Enterprises.

Peter’s back at school

Some of the scenes include Peter and MJ hand-in-hand as they, along with Ned and Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori) are returning to Midtown High amidst a crowd of reporters and protestors. No doubt some will compare this to civil rights protests against segregated schools such as the Little Rock Nine and the Stand in the Schoolhouse Door. You can also catch some of the signs reading “He’s a menace,” which, of course, is Jonah’s slur against Spider-Man. Another and more prominent one reads “Devil in Disguise.” That might be a bit of foreshadowing considering what the teaser trailer reveals later.

One thing to note here is that Flash has bleached his hair blond. While Flash in the MCU is off East Indian descent, this new dye job is a callback to the original comics which depicts Flash as a blond. It also is an indication of his support towards his hero Spider-Man even after learning he’s also Puny Parker.

We also see a shot of Betty Brant (Angourie Rice) standing in front of a camera, no doubt reporting on Spider-Man’s return to class. We also see footage of her reporting on the Midtown High TV monitors as Peter makes his way through other students armed with smartphones. It’s also very clear that Betty can’t contain her excitement over the fact that the best friend of her ex-boyfriend is a real-life superhero, even as said superhero doesn’t look all that happy.
