The Suicide Squad: Could we be getting a Captain Boomerang series?
By Mark Lynch
Here’s why The Suicide Squad’s Captain Boomerang should return in a DC Comics project.
The Suicide Squad has been getting rave reviews from fans and is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie provided viewers with action, comedy, and quite a few deep moments too. Considering that the previous Suicide Squad had almost none of that, this is a huge improvement.
The anticipation for The Suicide Squad may be over, but there’s still more to look forward to from the DCEU. Among those things is Peacemaker, which will indeed see John Cena will bring the role back in the upcoming HBO Max series. After seeing how great Cena was in this film, there should be no doubt that he’ll be just as good in the spin-off show. And another thing people can hopefully get excited for is the potential return of Captain Boomerang.
Is Captain Boomerang returning to the DCEU after The Suicide Squad?
To say that Captain Boomerang’s appearance in The Suicide Squad was a disappointment is an understatement. He was one of the few entertaining parts of the first movie so it was disappointing to see him have less of a role here. He’s also among the most popular members of the team and one of The Flash’s premiere enemies.
Will we see Captain Boomerang return to the DCEU in the future? Well Jai Courtney definitely sounds hopeful.
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the star revealed that he would be all for a Captain Boomerang return, commenting:
"“Let’s do it. Get on with it. Let’s go. Give the people what they want. Absolutely. Listen I was saying, a boomerang always comes back. Now I think there’s opportunities galore with him. We could do all of it. TV series. Spin Off. Pop up in The Flash. Warner Bros. are out there, they know what’s up.”"
Let’s be honest, Captain Boomerang didn’t deserve to go out like that. He was a character that people wanted to see. Yet, if you blinked, you may have missed him. His weapons may not be as fancy as Bloodsport’s gun or as brutal as Harley Quinn’s mallet, but he makes boomerangs look deadly and cool. Sure, he can be a joke. It’s not like he’s going to defeat any of the world’s big dogs, but that’s not the point. Captain Boomerang is entertaining and Jai Courtney plays the role perfectly.
Fans would absolutely watch a Captain Boomerang show. He’s funny, has a stuffed unicorn he walks around with, and he’s insanely surly. Plus, he was a legitimate spy with actual skills. A prequel showing him before Amanda Waller and Task Force X is something that would definitely get people to tune in. We’d get to see the real him before he was forced to do a job he hates. Make it rated R and make it happen.
