Shang-Chi is not coming to Disney Plus in September 2021

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings might be coming to theaters next month, but the film will not be coming to Disney Plus in September 2021.

With the month of September inching closer, Disney Plus has confirmed the complete list of original titles set to drop across the month. While there are a lot of great titles coming in September, one title which will not be coming during the month of September is the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe offering.

That’s right, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will not be coming to Disney Plus in September as Disney will be trying something different with the new film by releasing it on Disney Plus on a date unique from when the film will be opening in theaters.

Is Shang-Chi going to be on Disney Plus?

While Disney opted to release Black Widow both in theaters and via Disney Plus using its Premier Access tier — an approach it’s taken for other blockbusters such as Cruella and Jungle Cruise — Marvel Studios’ latest original cinematic edition will be opening exclusively in theaters and will not be coming to Disney Plus via Premier Access on Sept. 3.

Although Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will not be coming to Disney Plus the same day it opens in theaters as we saw with Black Widow, the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film will be coming to Disney Plus eventually!

Shang-Chi Disney Plus premiere date

The current plan is for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to enjoy a 45-day theatrical run before making its way to Disney Plus. At this time, Disney Plus has not confirmed when exactly the film will be arriving for subscriber’s streaming enjoyment but it’s looking likely we’ll be waiting until sometime in late October before the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film drops on Disney Plus.

Should the film arrive exactly 45 days after its debut in theaters, this should mean that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be coming to Disney Plus on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021.
