Batman is infected

Comic book: Detective Comics No. 1041 and 1042

Batman ends up getting infected by the virus that has killed at least a dozen people. Vile – what they’re calling the sentient virus – was supposed to be under Penguin and Worth’s control. To no one’s surprise, it wasn’t. Their plan to use Batman failed and Vile was now in control of Batman.

In the end, Batman ends up fighting back Vile’s control and handcuffing himself to prevent him from killing anyone. Had he not, Bats would have killed Worth and maybe Huntress. However, Huntress kills Vile before it could escape. That said, there were eggs in the body that ended up in the sewer.

Why is this important?

Batman has been having a horrible time over the last year. Losing his money, his home, and not having access to his new Batcave have caused him more stress than he needs. Now, he can add being mind-controlled to his list of unfortunate events. The thing that will stick with him, though, is almost killing someone – a rule that he thankfully didn’t break.

The there’s Vile. The symbiotic virus having eggs means we’ll see it again at some point. It will no doubt return smarter and its victims may be more resistant to the antidote that saved Huntress. This could end up being the new protector of Gotham’s problem to solve.
