Shang-Chi Disney Plus release date: When does the MCU movie premiere?

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but will it go to Disney Plus like its predecessor?

After making its return to the big screen with Black Widow earlier this year, the juggernaut that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks to introduce fans to a new hero in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The film stars Simu Liu as the titular protagonist and it makes history as the first Asian-led Marvel movie. It also marks Shang-Chi’s first appearance in the MCU and, if successful, will no doubt lead to his return in future installments.

MCU fans are definitely excited for the movie and it’s easy to see why. But how will they be able to check it out? Is it exclusive to the big screen or can they stream it from the comfort of their own homes?

With so much uncertainty in terms of movie release dates and whether or not those movies will have theatrical or streaming releases, it’s hard to know what to expect from any of this year’s releases. And with Marvel Studios’ close relationship with Disney Plus (which really reached new heights with series such as WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), fans are eager to know if Shang-Chi will premiere on the streaming platform too.

Will Shang-Chi premiere early on Disney Plus?

Unfortunately, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will not be premiering on Disney Plus Premier Access.

Fans hoped that it might given that Black Widow released both in theaters and on the streaming platform but that will not be the case with Shang-Chi or subsequent releases such as Eternals or Spider-Man: No Way Home.

When does Shang-Chi premiere on Disney Plus?

Shang-Chi will eventually join its MCU counterparts on the Disney Plus library whenever it finishes its run in theaters and prepares for home media release. And, taking its shortened 45-day theatrical release window into account (movies tend to have a 90-day release window), it could arrive as early as mid-October 2021.
