Episode 5 of Marvel’s What If…? left most of humanity zombified and the viewers with these five burning questions.

Episode 5 of Marvel’s What If…? followed up on a promise that we were given in one of the first clips of the Disney Plus series: We finally got the Marvel Comics Zombies. However, the creatures we saw in the Marvel Cinematic Universe-inspired offshoot were unlike the ones from the Marvel Comics series. They maintained all of their intelligence like the comic book series, but weren’t as goofy. And, unlike the comics, patient zero was Janet van Dyne.

After the previous episode, everyone was hoping for something less depressing. It may not have been as sad as that one, but “What If… Zombies!?” wasn’t the Party Thor episode this writer expected. It was full of our favorite heroes, yes, but almost all of them were transformed into remorseless killers. Even though this was a sad episode, it still left everyone with five burning questions that need answered.

6. What If…? this was inevitable?

In episode 4 of What If…?, we learned that some things were just destined to happen. A sad realization when you’re seeing events you wish you could change. Here, we see that the world (and later we find out the universe) is overrun by zombies. Peter, T’Challa, and Scott Lang were the only Avengers left alive to restart humanity.

What if this was meant to happen too? Not every world is going to have a happy outcome. Some of them are going to be full of despair and zombies. If that’s the case, there’s no turning back.
