The Marvel Comics universe heroes were killed in Savage Avengers. Now, their only hope in Kang the Conqueror.

Marvel Comics’ Savage Avengers may have flown under your radar since there aren’t a lot of typical Avengers in the series. If it has, you’re missing out. Gerry Duggan has done wonders with Conan the Barbarian and his journey to stop Kulan Gath.

Kulan Gath’s power is so immense that even Doctor Doom and Stephen Strange are scared of what he can do. They were right to fear him. In Savage Avengers No. 24, the heroes of the world rose up against him and lost. He killed every super being in his way and became both omniscient and omnipotent.

Thankfully, there was some hope. Conan wasn’t dead. He escaped Kulan Gath’s gaze for decades. He also found Stephen Strange alive. Before being killed by Gath, Strange told Conan that there was a way to save the world. It was then that we found out that Strange was keeping time until someone who would help would appear. That person was Kang the Conqueror.

In the beginning of Savage Avengers, we see someone carving a message into a sarcophagus. All it said was “Sept.” We later see the entire message read “September 15, 2043.” When the message was done being carved, Kang appeared and asked why this person desecrated the sarcophagus of Rama-Tut. Rama-Tut becomes Kang the Conqueror (time travel is wacky) and, if anyone is going to take over the world, Kang feels like it should be him. Whether that’s true or not, Kang is the person needed to change the timeline.

What’s next for Savage Avengers?

Conan’s time in Savage Avengers has been both weird and random. Sometimes he’s going after Kulan Gath and other times he’s accepting gigs for money. Somehow, though, it always ends up becoming connected to Kulan Gath.

However, it’s not like Conan could’ve stopped him even if he was focused. The villain became too powerful. Seeing what Gath did, it’s clear that the only way to stop him is time travel.

The damage has been done and Kang is their only hope. It’s likely this arc will lead to the Timeless comic book series Marvel Comics previewed. No matter what happens at the end of this Savage Avengers story, though, you can be certain Kang will come out of this looking good and become one of Conan’s many enemies in the future.
