Titans season 3 spoilers: Does Red Hood turn good?
Titans season 3 has focused on Jason Todd’s descent into villainy, but can Red Hood be redeemed?
Jason Todd’s dark days have been at the center of Titans season 3 since its opening moments. From inhaling Scarecrow’s toxin to dying at the hands of The Joker, he underwent a lot in that opening act, setting up his descent into villainy as he returned from the dead and became the violent vigilante known as Red Hood.
Jason’s heel turn matches the character’s comic book history as Red Hood waged a war on Gotham that garnered the heroes’ attention. But the differences in the HBO Max series came when it was revealed that Jonathan Crane was the one pulling the strings, manipulating Jason into doing his bidding after reviving him from the dead through the use of the Lazarus Pit.

Without the drugs that Crane kept supplying him with, though, Jason has seemingly begun to see a little bit of light. Is that enough to force him to redeem himself?
Will Jason Todd turn good again in Titans season 3?
Jason Todd has always been a loose canon. He’s reckless, irritable and often lets his emotions get the better of him. Those are longstanding aspects of the DC Comics character that Titans has reflected from the get-go. And even though he wants to do good, he finds himself easily led into the darkness.
As the fifth episode of season 3 proved, Jason can find his way into the light when he has the right person to lead him. His kinship with both Leslie Tomkins and Bruce Wayne could have gotten him there if the latter hadn’t overlooked his problems. That ultimately led him to Crane – who took pride in encouraging him to give into the darkest of his tendencies.

But without the drugs, Jason is seeing things clearly now and he wants to come home and be a Titan again. The eighth episode started a great dialogue about whether that would even be possible considering what Red Hood has done, cleverly using characters like Gar and Kory – both of whom have killed before, or have been forced to kill, for different reasons – to discuss that very topic.
With Tim Drake getting caught in the crossfire, Jason has all the evidence in the world to prove that Crane needs to be stopped. But he didn’t even need that evidence because it’s clear that he doesn’t want to hurt anyone else.
Comic book fans will know that Red Hood eventually finds a footing somewhere between good and bad, walking the line between both without ever fully being either one. Will Titans‘ Jason find his way to that place and become the antihero that stops the Scarecrow? It’s definitely looking that way but it’s unclear if he will ever be able to make up for his unforgivable actions.
New episodes of Titans season 3 debut Thursdays on HBO Max.
