Titans season 3, episode 8 concluded on a note that will surely turn Gotham City upside down in the near future.

Titans season 3 has been a non-stop rollercoaster ride of emotions. Since the former DC Universe show‘s new season began, the characters have experienced grief, betrayal, sadness, strength, hurt, agony and even occasional happiness. But one emotion at the center of this season’s story has been fear.

It’s not surprising given that Jonathan Crane is involved, as the Scarecrow capitalized on Jason Todd’s fears of abandonment and manipulated him into becoming the murderous vigilante known as Red Hood. However, now the villain has set his sights on Gotham once again and he is hellbent on doing what he perceives to be “saving” it from its own fears.

Did he succeed in this week’s installment? Here’s what went down in “Home”.

** Spoilers for Titans season 3, episode 8 ahead **

What happened in Titans season 3, episode 8?

With Jason finally cutting ties with the Scarecrow, the former Titan reached out to Dick through his friend Molly and Gar, arranging to meet with him in the hopes of returning home. However, Crane tracked him to the tunnels and listed to the pair’s meeting, somberly realizing that he could no longer control Red Hood as Jason revealed where they could find Crane.

In an attempt to use this unexpected development to turn things around, he waited for the Titans to arrive and baited Starfire into blasting him with a fireball. However, he moved out of the way and the blast created a hole in the pump station, allowing Crane’s new toxin to seep into the water supply.

Meanwhile, Tim Drake was shot by Crane, with the Titans attempting to keep him conscious until the paramedics arrived.

What does the ending of Titans season 3, episode 8 really mean?

It’s clear that Titans is preparing for the final act of the season. Bearing in mind that there are still some characters yet to come into play, the show is seemingly building towards the end of the Red Hood/Scarecrow arc and what better way to do that than with a penultimate-like stage-setter?

Scarecrow’s plan was a success and he is once again in the driver’s seat. Meanwhile, Gotham City may well find itself at his mercy as everyone (even GCPD Commissioner Barbara Gordon) will likely be exposed to his drug – something the episode’s closing moments suggested when the Titans signal turned a haunting blood red.

Can the Titans reverse the damage before too much of it is done? Or will Crane find his way back to the top of Gotham’s criminal empire? And what of Tim Drake? Will he manage to survive and follow his comic book destiny of becoming the next Robin? We’ll have to wait and see.
