2. What If…? Tony Stark lived

The Tony Stark we know has a huge ego, but an even bigger heart. That’s not every Tony Stark, though. In some of the comic book universes out there, he’s a cold and heartless monster (see Exiles 23-25 for an example). Now, let’s say Tony found out and agreed with Killmonger. What would have happened then in that scenario?

We assume that Killmonger would still try to murder Tony later. Killing people after they aren’t useful is what he does. But what if Tony never outlived his usefulness? Or, and here’s another idea, what would happen if Tony got the drop on Killmonger? Is it possible for someone like Tony Stark to get the drop on Killmonger? These are some questions to ponder.

1. What happens next?

The most annoying quality of What If…? is that we don’t get to see what happens next.. after the cliffhanger. Episode 4 is the exception as we know that Doctor Strange’s universe is destroyed for good and the episode just ends on that haunting note. In this episode, however, a war is seemingly coming between Wakanda and the United States and we don’t know if Shuri and Pepper Potts can stop it.

There are two things to think about here. First, what happens if the truth gets out? We’ve seen that things can be spun to look different. Second, the truth may not be enough to guarantee that the war stops. Lines have been drawn and General Ross might not care. He may see all the vibranium that Wakanda has and see weapons for the U.S. And Killmonger may be happy to just kill the people who oppressed him. It would have been nice to see how this one concluded.
