The Batman: Another new spin-off series is in development at HBO Max
The same creative team behind The Batman and an unnamed Gotham PD series are set to develop The Penguin spin-off for HBO Max.
The Batman is already one of the most-anticipated comic book movies right now. Even though its release is under a year away, Warner Bros. and DC Films are expecting big things from the Robert Pattinson-led movie as they are in the process of building a new world around it – one that involves a number of spin-off TV shows it seems.
With an unnamed spin-off currently in the works for HBO Max involving the Gotham City Police Department, it has now been revealed that another spin-off is in development as well. This one will be centered on Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot a.k.a. The Penguin.
According to Deadline, the project is in the early stages of development and is being executive produced by The Batman’s Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark with Agents of SHIELD’s Lauren LeFranc serving as the series showrunner.
The show has also been described as a “Scarface-like” show about the rise of The Penguin.
Is Colin Farrell going to play The Penguin in the Batman HBO Max series?
Colin Farrell, who is set to portray the iconic Batman villain in The Batman, is expected to star in the series.
Ever since the first trailer for the movie was unveiled at DC Fandome last year, Farrell has been one of the major talking-points in regards to the motion picture, due to the fact that he is essentially “unrecognizable” in the role.
The Robert Pattinson-led film is set during The Dark Knight’s second year of crime-fighting while the Joe Barton-showrun Gotham PD series is set during “Year One”. It will be interesting to see what Farrell’s crime-lord will do in both the 2022 movie and the series.
The Penguin series will be produced under Matt Reeves’ 6th and Idaho Productions, Dylan Clark Productions, DC Films and Warner Bros. Television. It is expected to stream in the near future on HBO Max.
