Disney is celebrating the second anniversary of Disney+ with loads of content, headlined by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Disney+ launched on November 12, 2019 and has become a massive source of entertainment for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars fans alike. The service went from being the home of Disney’s massive catalog to being the premier place to catch the studio’s new releases during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the House of Mouse had no idea that we’d be sticking to our houses for the better part of a year (or more), they launched their service at the perfect time. More than that, the quality content they were providing allowed the streaming service to outshine all expectations.

Disney+ was always intended to be the go-to service for childhood nostalgia, the MCU, and Star Wars. What’s been unexpected is dropping new releases on the service. Some films arrive on the service like everything else – free to watch for all subscribers. However, starting with Mulan, Disney introduced “Premier Access” — subscribers could pay $29.99 to watch the film anytime they wanted at the same time it’s in theaters and before it becomes part of the standard Disney+ library. Not all films get the Premier Access treatment though, as films like Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings debuted exclusively in theaters.

And while we’ve all missed the theater experience, for some of us, it’s still not an option. That means missing out on certain films like Shang-Chi or having to pay $29.99 for films like Jungle Cruise. But there’s good news! Shang-Chi is coming to Disney+ very soon.

Shang-Chi Disney Plus release date

Shang-Chi will debut in celebration of the second anniversary of Disney+, on November 12, 2021. That’s not all though — it will be joined by Jungle Cruise (which releases for all subscribers) and there are a ton of originals, shorts, and specials dropping that day as well.

Those relevant to Bam Smack Pow include a Star Wars special that celebrates the origins and legacy of Boba Fett and an MCU special with a look to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future. Not only are these specials timed for Disney+’s anniversary, but Disney+ Originals from these studios will be right around the corner.

Hawkeye is scheduled to debut on November 24, 2021 so it would be expected to see some new footage from that during the MCU special. Ms. Marvel is also expected in early 2022 and it wouldn’t be a surprise if we saw something from that series in the special. It would be nice to see some She-Hulk and Moon Knight clips too, but they’re certainly less likely.

With Shang-Chi and The Eternals already released by the time this special airs, we’ll likely only see some information about Spider-Man: No Way Home, though with how much the multiverse plays into the MCU’s future, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see something from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness either.

The Book of Boba Fett is scheduled to debut in December, so it’s safe to assume the first footage we’ll see of that series will be during the Star Wars special. With that special focusing on Boba Fett himself, any other footage is less likely; though I wouldn’t rule out news and/or footage from The Mandalorian Season 3.

It’s safe to say that November 12 is a good day to be a geek. With it being a Friday, it may be worth taking a 3-day weekend to watch all the new content when it drops at midnight PST.
