Where’s Thor’s beard?

Good question. Apparently Party Thor likes his checks baby smooth compared to the MCU Thor. This also works as a cute nod towards the original comics, as the God of Thunder is usually depicted as being clean-shaven.

What’s the deal with Fandrall and the goat?

Apparently, this is deep cut towards an actual Marvel comic entitled Marvel Fanfare, an anthology series which lasted from 1982 to 1991, then relaunched again in 1996 to 1997. However, the goat wasn’t named Gary. As part of a four-part story arc (issues #34 to #37), it involved the Asgardian swashbuckler on a quest to cure his friend Mord, whom Loki transformed into a goat out of revenge for not being invited to Mord’s wedding. This turned out to be a fool’s errand because the goat Fandrall assumed was Mord was just an ordinary goat.

Hold on, aren’t those the Infinity Stones?

No doubt you spotted Thanos’ infamous glove with all the Infinity Stones as Thor, Sif, Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun were making their party plans. Best not be thinking Thor somehow stopped Thanos however. As proven in Thor: Ragnarok, that Infinity Gauntlet is a replica inserted with fake Infinity Stones.

No, the ones at the end of this episode.

Oh, those Infinity Stones!

Yes, just as “What If… Thor Was an Only Child?” ends with what seems like a happy ending, various Ultron robots appear along with an Ultron fitted with all six Infinity Stones. Even more unsettling is that when Ultron’s face opens like a helmet, underneath is the face of the Vision.

Seeing as neither Ultron or Vision have been created in this timeline yet (especially since it was Thor who helped bring the spark of life to the Vision to begin with), this looks like a Ultron from an alternate universe invading this one. Obviously, this is meant to be a stinger for the final episodes of What If…? setting up this version of Ultron as the big bad for the season 1 finale. Something tells me that those who like their What If…? to be more serious and dire won’t be disappointed.
