Did Marvel’s What If…? just preview Galactus? If they did, it’s backed up by comic book lore.

Ultron is scary enough. Adding the Infinity Stones to the mix makes him an unbeatable force.  That’s something that the newest episode of Marvel’s What If…? showed us. In just one episode of the Disney Plus series, this version of Ultron became the most powerful being we’ve ever seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not even Thanos stood a chance. Then, after destroying almost every living thing in the universe, he felt the presence of Uatu. This drove Ultron to go after The Watcher and attempt to kill him.

The two of them battled throughout multiple universes. A couple of things stood out in this fight. First, Uatu is more than his power and knowledge. He can actually fight a lot better than anyone would have thought. Second, there was a moment where Ultron actually looked like Galactus. This got a lot of people talking on social media. Some took this as a joke. This writer says that this could be a reference to the beginning of Galactus’ presence in the MCU.

Galactus’ Origin

The scene that first got everyone talking is the one in which Ultron appeared in what looked like the beginning of a universe. His helmet on top of the open face looked a lot like Galactus. But that was just the look and you need more than a cool look for a legit theory. That’s why it’s his appearance at the beginning of a galaxy that sets it over the top because this is reminiscent of how Eater of Planets came into the universe.

Galactus is one of the oldest beings in the galaxy. In fact, he’s older than the universe itself. Galan merged with Sixth Cosmos, giving him a new body that allowed him to survive the “multiversal renewal. cycle” Galan was then killed at the end of the universe, but Galactus was born. Not only was he born, he was hungry.

Why did this happen?

The scene that saw Ultron become a giant head above a cosmic occurrence couldn’t just be a coincidence, right? Marvel Studios rarely does things without a reason. The image of Ultron appearing to look like the Eater of Worlds in that moment was done intentionally. The creators knew it would get people talking and that the internet would go crazy with theories (obviously, this writer included). Not only does it get people excited about What If…?, it gets people thinking about the Fantastic Four.

Referencing Galactus in What If…? could be just an Easter Egg but it could also be Marvel Studios making their chess move. The announcement that the Fantastic Four would be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe came in late 2020. It’s been almost a year since that reveal and we haven’t seen anything about the project. Perhaps Marvel have now placed their bishop in a strategic place in hopes for a win in the future.

This writer is aware of how he sounds. This is not much different from the Mephisto “sightings” in WandaVision and Loki. And yet, that adds to this theory. Marvel sees the same things we do. It would be easy to add an image of the World Eater to get people talking. It could be something and it could be nothing. If this happened by chance, there’s still one good thing that comes from this. At least we know what Galactus may look like in the future.

Either way, expect him to show up in the MCU at some point.
