Riverdale season 6 spoilers: Is [SPOILER] really dead?

Riverdale left fans in complete shock with a finale episode that was quite literally explosive. What does it mean for our beloved characters in Riverdale season 6?

Riverdale season 5 bowed out in predictably explosive fashion and yet it completely shocked fans with an unpredictable conclusion.

The finale, titled “Chapter Ninety-Five: RIVERDALE: RIP(?)”, saw the town finally have enough of Hiram Lodge. The wannabe kingpin staged the destruction of Pops’ diner, assuming that attacking the heart and soul of Riverdale would result in the town finally giving up the fight against him, but it backfired in a big way as they unearthed footage of him murdering his mentor and sent him packing.

However, Hiram blamed Archie Andrews for turning his daughter, Veronica, against him (seriously have you looked at yourself, Hiram?) and couldn’t leave without vengeance. And thus, he planted a bomb under Archie’s bed – just as he and Betty Cooper were getting intimate.

What does this mean for the pair known as “Barchie“?

Do Archie and Betty die in Riverdale season 6?

While the finale sure went a long way to make it look like something bad happened to Archie and Betty, it’s unlikely that either of them were killed – in spite of their absence in the new trailer for season 6.

First thing’s first, it’s important to remember that actors KJ Apa and Lili Reinhart are both series regulars for season 6 and it’s unlikely that the show would ever risk killing off two of the core four characters. Moreover, Betty has unfinished business with the trash bag killer and it’s unlikely that the finale would include that scene if it didn’t plan on continuing that route with the character.

There will be repercussions from the attack, ones that are going to leave Betty and Archie in a place full of new struggles, but they will be there to deal with them. The question is: Will Barchie ever get the chance to rise, or is this the end for them once and for all?

Riverdale season 6 premieres on The CW on Tuesday, November 19, at 9:00 p.m. ET.
