Riverdale concludes its fifth season with an ending appropriately larger-than-life, but is Riverdale season 6 coming to screens?
It’s the end of an era for Riverdale as its major and long-awaited fifth season has come to an end. The episode, which aired on The CW on Wednesday night and streamed internationally on Netflix the following morning, brought the show’s current storylines to something of a close.
Riverdale season 5 is notorious for rebooting the show. More of a revival than a follow-up season, it jumped forward seven years in time to introduce us to new, more mature versions of these characters. In the process, however, it introduced us to a lot of new storylines for them to deal with.
Archie Andrews had spent those seven years in the army, coming back to town to discover that Hiram Lodge had destroyed the town in the hopes of extracting the Palladium from Cheryl Blossom’s Maple Groves. Therefore, he took it upon himself to save it, reaching out to Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge for help, also relying on Toni Topaz, Kevin Keller and Fangs Fogarty – all of whom had remained in the town.
With season 5 leaving things in a very interesting place, fans are now looking ahead to the future of Riverdale. In spite of its gripping new stories, the ratings have hit new lows. We must remember that Riverdale is a CW veteran and it has been around for a long time. Is it time for the show to bow out?
Is Riverdale cancelled?
No, Riverdale has not been cancelled. In fact, it has been renewed for a sixth season, which is set to premiere on screens later this year.
In spite of the aforementioned ratings drop, Riverdale remains one of The CW’s most popular shows and its international distribution has resulted in it becoming one of the most popular shows in the world.
Riverdale season 6 release date
Riverdale season 6 premieres on The CW on Tuesday, November 16, at the new time of 9:00 p.m. ET. It will follow fellow veteran The Flash.
The show will then hit Netflix internationally the following day, Wednesday November 17, at 8:00 a.m. BST.
