The much-anticipated sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, has made a shocking debut with over $90 million within its domestic box office weekend.

As revealed by Deadline, Venom: Let There Be Carnage opened to incredible numbers at the box office with $90.1 million domestically. As described by the media-outlet, its grand opening has surpassed the box office gross of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Widow  – which opened at $80.8 million.

Tom Hardy reprises his role from the first film in the franchise, Venom, as Eddie Brock – the man who “bonds” with the titular symbiote. And that original film opened with $80.2 million.

Despite the many delays that the sequel faced, this film was a foreseeable hit given how well that predecessor performed.

So, just how is Venom 2 doing at the box office?

Early projections for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, according to Deadline, were over $60 million (including opening night previews) and obviously the movie has flown past these numbers as it exceeded expectations with a $90 million domestic debut.

Currently, the Tom Hardy-led Sony sequel has grossed over $130 million against a $110 Mil production budget.

Although the reviews from critics from Venom 2 were generally quite mixed, like with the first one, the reception from fans has been quite positive, meaning that when Venom 2 does open to more territories, including the UK and Ireland, and throughout Europe, it could also perform well due to positive word-of-mouth.
