The Flash movie is finally coming to theaters all over the world this summer. Here is everything you need to know about it.
To say that The Flash is one of the most eagerly-anticipated movies right now would be something of an understatement.
Perhaps the last movie to be set within the DCEU, it features Ezra Miller in the titular role as they reprise their role from previous appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The film was initially meant to continue the DCEU story started in those movies, but now it is designed to close it, rebooting the shared universe into the new DC Universe, which will be overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The movie has gone through a number of different iterations during its stint in “production hell” with many thinking that it might never see the light of day. But it’s finally going to happen this year. On that note, what do we know about it?
Below, you’ll find all the up-to-date information you need about The Flash movie, its release date, its cast, any trailers and more.
The Flash release date
The Flash will be released in movie theaters on June 16, 2023.
It was rather notorious for the production hell that it underwent, so delays were aplenty. After everything did get on track, though, it was subsequently delayed again due to the COVID-19 pandemic before a November 2022 release date was settled on. However, after that, it was shifted one more time to June 2023 (before being brought forward one week to its current release date).
You can bet anticipation remains high for this film, so let’s hope it’s worth the near-nine-year wait.
The Flash cast
The Flash will feature quite the star-studded cast. Of course, Ezra Miller will reprise their role as the DCEU’s Scarlet Speedster but they will also be joined by a multitude of familiar faces, both from DC’s past and its present.
As of writing, the current cast of The Flash is:
- Ezra Miller – Barry Allen / The Flash
- Michael Keaton – Bruce Wayne / Batman
- Sasha Calle – Supergirl
- Ben Affleck – Bruce Wayne / Batman
- Kiersey Clemons – Iris West
- Maribel Verdú – Nora Allen
- Ron Livingston – Henry Allen
- Michael Shannon – General Zod
- Antje Traue – Faora-Ul
- Temuera Morrison – Thomas Curry
There are a lot of notable names in this cast that you will likely recognize from other DC productions. DCEU stars Ben Affleck and Temuera Morrison are expected to reprise their roles as the DCEU versions of their respective characters, while Michael Shannon and Antje Traue will seemingly play alternate versions of their Man of Steel characters.
Ron Livingston will be replacing Billy Crudup as Henry Allen (after Crudup had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts). And the biggest name in the film, Michael Keaton, reprises his role as the Dark Knight from the classic Tim Burton movies Batman and Batman Returns.
The Flash trailer
The first teaser trailer for The Flash was released at DC FanDome 2021 and it was certainly worth the wait. Teasing the involvement of Keaton’s Batman, Calle’s Supergirl and a second Barry Allen, it set what will no doubt be a jaw-dropping main trailer for whenever it is released.
The second trailer for the movie was officially released during the Super Bowl LVII in February 2023. Watch it below:
The Flash movie poster
The first official poster for The Flash movie was released ahead of the Super Bowl trailer. The official Flash account debuted the artwork on the film’s social media pages, and it showcases the Scarlet Speedster standing in the Bat-Cave, as the Batwing used by Michael Keaton’s Caped Crusader in Batman (1989) hovers overhead.

What is The Flash about?
Much of the plot for the upcoming Flash movie has been kept under wraps. However, we do know that it will heavily take inspiration from DC’s Flashpoint narrative in which Barry Allen travels back in time to save his mother Nora, changing the timeline and resulting in a very different future.
We also know that this journey will bring him face to face with Michael Keaton’s Batman and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. What role Ben Affleck’s DCEU Batman will play remains to be seen.
The recently released poster confirmed this as it boasted the tagline “Worlds Collide”.
