Marvel: 7 things we need from the MCU’s Mephisto
By Mark Lynch
When Marvel debuts Mephisto, these seven things are key in making the Lord of Hell unforgettable.
Since WandaVision debuted as Marvel Studios’ premiere Disney Plus show, people have been seeing Mephisto across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s been a fly, a picture in a stained glass window, and probably in a piece of toast. As much as everyone speculated about his potential presence, the truth is that the Lord of Hell could be none of these things and all of them at once. That’s the beauty of Mephisto. He’s everywhere and nowhere. We all make jokes, but we won’t know where he was until they actually tell us.
At some point, we should see the Lord of Hell appear in the MCU. A premiere villain in Marvel Comics, Mephisto helped recreate the world in Heroes Reborn. After it was done, more versions of him popped up to try and rule more realities (615 versions to be exact). We should expect more sinister things like this in the MCU.
On that note, these seven entries coming up are points that could help place Mephisto among the great movie villains.
7. Origin
An in-depth origin story is important for the right character. However, this isn’t one of those cases. Sure, knowing who these characters are is important but, as we saw with Thanos, we don’t always need an extended story.
With this particular villain, keeping it simple is the way to go. With Mephisto, what you see is what you get. He’s a Hell Lord. Causing mischief for the sake of power and entertainment is what he does. In this case, that mischief causes issues across reality. Sometimes all of the multiverse. You don’t need a long tale to highlight this.
