2. Patient

In the current Marvel Comics Avengers run (by Jason Aaron), Mephisto’s current plan started in one billion B.C. Let that sink in. The devilish entity put a plan in motion billions of years ago and patiently waited for things to come to fruition. This is no small feat. Of course, Mephisto might have moved in and out of time, but that still takes restraint to not give up on the plan.

There are a lot of things to depend on that he couldn’t control. There are unknown variables that come with time, especially with the Marvel Comics characters rearranging and destroying the timestream. He also had to hope that the people he employed (and forced) would do their part.

1. Mephisto the Vain conqueror

Lastly, Mephsito is greedy and arrogant. He wants it all. Hell, Earth, and his name as the one true god of reality (see Heroes Reborn for more on this). Whenever he makes a play, it’s nothing small. In X-Factor: Hell On Earth War, he was among the other Hell Lords looking to obtain all of Hell. In Avengers, he was looking to rule more than one reality.

Make Mephisto as greedy and narcissistic. So much so that they think they can’t be beaten. This should be the most self assured villain we’ve ever seen. Mephisto once manipulated Thanos while he had all of the Infinity Stones (see Marvel Comics The Infinity Gauntlet for that). That’s the kind of hubris we need from the Lord of Hell.
