Cyclops and Wolverine don’t always see eye to eye. They’ve fought over ideals, plans, and, of course, Jean Grey’s love. Nevertheless, they make it work for the good of the X-Men. They respect each other and consider each other to be more than teammates. They’re brothers. Eventually, though, even people who love and respect each other can have a breaking point. For these two, it was about the mutant children of Utopia.
Wolverine didn’t like that Cyclops looked at the mutant kids on Utopia as soldiers. On the other hand, Cyclops felt as if he was teaching them to survive a world that feared and hated them. While this debate was happening, however, a giant sentinel approached Utopia to destroy it. But the two mutants ended up in a brawl while a mutant killing machine was attacking them on the island.
Eventually, the X-Men stepped in and defeated the sentinel. However, Wolverine and Cyclops’ relationship was broken.
After talking to Idie Okonkwo, Logan decided that some of the students need a place to be kids instead of just fighters. He decided to reopen the school in Westchester (the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning). Some mutants left to pursue the growth of the school while others stayed on Utopia. The mutants were divided like they never had been before or after.
