Constantine

If it’s demons, ghosts and some old-school possessions you’re after this Halloween, then Constantine is probably right up your street. Centering on DC’s resident demon hunter, the short-lived NBC show reintroduced the John Constantine character to mainstream audiences (after Keanu Reeves’ controversial interpretation in the 2005 film) and Matt Ryan was nothing short of exceptional as the lead.

In spite of its brevity, Constantine thrills as the man whose soul is damned to Hell does whatever he can to stop the rising darkness from below. And it’s one that will undoubtedly leave you wanting more. Thankfully, Ryan gave us plenty of that throughout his reprisal of the role on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Swamp Thing

Arguably the darkest of all superhero TV shows, Swamp Thing made an unforgettable impact on fans of both the comic book and horror genres. A grim reimagining of a character too often associated with corny adaptations, the streaming show was a haunting and Gothic tale in which a man killed in the swamp of Marais is resurrected by the forces within it, and from there, vows to help the woman he was beginning to fall in love with to figure out what evils lie beneath town.

Surprisingly boundary-pushing and inherently mature, Swamp Thing was more of a horror show than superhero series and the violence, adult content and mature language was all held together by a central story that was as vivid as it was compelling.

If you’re looking for a truly horrifying (but brilliant) comic book adaptation this Halloween, Swamp Thing‘s 10-episode season is exactly what you need.
