Kung Fu is one of TV’s biggest new hits. Unfortunately, The CW will not be airing Kung Fu season 2 this year.

Kung Fu wasted little time making an impression on viewers. The modern day reboot of the 1972 TV series focuses on a young woman named Nicky Shen as she returns home after three years in an isolated monastery in China. Though Nicky is attempting to reintegrate herself back into her former life, she soon realizes that her past has followed her there and the person she has become is ready to fight.

The show has turned out to be one of The CW’s biggest success stories. Along with Walker and Superman and Lois, it was one of the most-watched series premieres of the year but it made history when it managed to retain those viewing figures into its second week.

It was no surprise when The CW renewed Kung Fu for a second season rather early into its run. However, the show won’t be returning later this year as the network unveiled the fall portion of its 2021 – 2022 TV schedule and Kung Fu season 2 is not on it. Thankfully, it has now confirmed when it will return.

Kung Fu season 2 release date

Kung Fu season 2 will premiere on The CW on Wednesday, March 9, at 9:00 p.m. ET. It maintains its original night but now moves into the later timeslot, airing after CW veteran The Flash season 8.

Kung Fu‘s delay in returning for a second season is likely down to a number of reasons. To begin with, the show concluded its first season rather late into the year, with its finale airing in August. Thus, as the show was still on screens well into the summer, that made it one of the likely choices to rest for a while.

Moreover, with so many programs to juggle, it makes sense for The CW to move two of its biggest success stories of 2021 to midseason to ensure that its spring schedule is loaded with heavy-hitters too.
