A memorable final fight

The first Wonder Woman is one of the greatest comic book movies of all time but its final fight left a lot to be desired. The showdown with Ares was like a poor rendition of a battle with the X-Men’s Magneto. She was battling the God of War. That should have been a fight we never forgot.

Then there’s Wonder Woman 1984, which saw her face off against the Cheetah and Maxwell Lord. In the comic books, Diana kills Lord. There is a case to be made for her doing it in the film as well. Instead, she just talks him down. Again, completely forgettable – and this is after a lackluster CGI-heavy fight with Cheetah.

Both final fights have something in common. They both show that Wonder Woman deserves a much better battle this time around.

Wonder Woman is more ruthless and skilled than these two movies suggest. Surprisingly, Batman V Superman and Justice League did a better job showing this. Perhaps we‘ll see more of that if the third one is indeed set in the present. The audience needs more from her fight scenes this time around. Her final battle can’t be like the previous two, especially the one with Cheetah which was too dark to enjoy. Diana Prince deserves better.

Wonder Woman doesn’t have a lot of enemies that can challenge her. She’s stronger and skilled than most of the characters, let alone villains, in any comic book. That doesn’t mean she can’t be challenged though. It would be nice to see her fight the Greek Pantheon with other Amazons. Or, she could go to Asgard – a journey she’s made in comics recently.
