Riverdale season 6 premiered this week with its jaw-dropping five-episode event.

Riverdale returned to screens tonight with one of its most bizarre episodes yet. The first installment of its five-episode-event, “Chapter Sixty-Nine: Welcome to Rivervale” offered up a lot more horror than the show is used to – and given that we still remember the Gargoyle King, that’s saying a lot!

Set in what appears to be an alternate version of town named Rivervale, events played out in something of a parallel fashion. Betty and Archie were still together but their relationship was far more developed than the one we saw in Riverdale season 5’s finale (not-to-mention the fact that they had no recollection of the events of the finale). Tabitha and Jughead were also together, but their relationship had also advanced to the point they were moving in together. And Fangs and Tony were also together, just like they got together in the end of the previous season.

However, everything in Riverdale season 6 was as different as it was similar. And it all built towards a shocking conclusion that left fans in awe.

Is Archie Andrews really dead in Riverdale season 6?

The season 6 premiere saw Cheryl Blossom orchestrate a plot to kill Archie Andrews so that he could “save” Rivervale. That meant driving a blade through him and extracting his heart, so that, in her belief, the town could flourish.

Naturally, this was a shocking moment for the season 6 premiere to end on, and it’s left fans wondering what it means for Archie. The question is: Is he dead and gone forever? Riverdale has pulled bait and switches before, but we actually saw Archie being killed here, so how could that be reversed?

The truth is that, yes, it seems Archie Andrews is dead… in Rivervale. Remember, we are talking about the shadow town of Riverdale that isn’t actually canon to the show’s mythology. Thus, whenever this “five-episode-event” comes to an end, you should expect to find Archie alive and well. That is, unless he and Betty really were killed by Hiram Lodge in the season 5 finale.

Be worried about Archie. Be very worried.
