Loki season 2 is not coming to Disney Plus in 2021

Loki season 2 is on the horizon, but we’re going to have to wait a little bit longer for it to arrive, it seems.

Loki was one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s greatest success stories this year. It’s hard to bet against Marvel whenever the studio continues to produce highly sought-after content that tops box office and streaming charts, but 2021 might just have been the best year for the MCU yet and the Tom Hiddleston-led series is one of the many reasons for that.

With Hiddleston reprising his role from previous MCU movies, Loki centers on the version of the God of Mischief that took himself off into the timeline with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. But an escape from Earth’s Mightiest Heroes only put him in the crosshairs of the Time Variance Authority.

With a lovable ensemble cast featuring the likes of Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant, Loki was a major success for the Disney Plus streaming service, so it was no surprise when a second season was commissioned the day its finale aired.

As for when we can expect Loki season 2, that’s a little more complicated. And with Disney Plus unveiling its December line-up (with obviously no sign of Loki on there), it’s clear that it won’t be arriving on the streaming service this year.

Loki season 2 release date

Loki‘s second season does not have a confirmed release date as of yet. The first season concluded in July and even though the second one was announced on the day of the finale, there have been very little updates about it since.

But if you’ve been keeping up to date with the updates we have had, then you’ll know that it’s not all that surprising that we won’t be experiencing new episodes of Loki in December 2021 because there is actually a good chance that we may not experience them by December 2022 either.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed to Collider that the search for a new director was underway (after Kate Herron’s departure) but that shooting might not begin until 2022 or 2023.

So buckle up Loki fans as it seems there will be quite the wait for that second season!
