Hawkeye spoilers: Who is Maya’s Uncle and is [SPOILER] coming back?
Hawkeye has finally made its presence felt on Disney Plus and the third episode has a lot of fans talking. Who is Maya Lopez’s “Uncle”?
It’s been a long time coming, but Hawkeye has finally made its presence felt on TV screens. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series was among this year’s most anticipated offerings and that anticipation multiplied whenever it was revealed that it would have a holiday theme.
The first two episodes arrived on Disney Plus last week and they definitely made an impact. Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) came out of his retirement as the titular archer to find the person claiming his Ronin persona, only to discover the person that could be the next hero of the MCU: Kate Bishop.
Those first two episodes were undoubtedly thrill-rides, but the third has fans talking because of the mysterious character known only as “Uncle”. On that note, let’s take a look at what it all means.
Who is Uncle in Hawkeye?
The third episode of Hawkeye officially introduced us to Maya Lopez – the woman that Marvel Comics fans know by the name of Echo. We found out why she wanted to track Ronin down as it was revealed that, during those dark days, Clint killed her father.
But it turns out that Maya’s father wasn’t the only parental figure in her life as she had a man known as “Uncle” who she also seemingly looked up to – one who we only saw gently greet her off-screen when she was a child. Years later, it seems that same Uncle holds some kind of power over Maya and her operation as we are told that he seemingly wouldn’t want her looking into Ronin or Clint Barton.
Fans are naturally intrigued as to who this mysterious Uncle is, with most of them concluding that it is none other than Wilson Fisk.
Is Wilson Fisk in Hawkeye?
Vincent D’Onofrio has long been rumored to be appearing in Hawkeye as the infamous Kingpin, Wilson Fisk, reprising his role from the critically-acclaimed Netflix series Daredevil. While it has not been officially confirmed, D’Onofrio himself has liked tweets that suggested he would appear and even tweeted about his excitement for Hawkeye.
The reason that fans predicted he would feature is down to the fact that, in the Marvel Comics, Fisk takes Maya in after her father is killed (though he was the one who killed him). So the idea of him being her “Uncle” in the MCU isn’t that unbelievable.
Moreover, the brief scene that featured “Uncle” (albeit mostly of-screen) in the third episode did portray him as a tall and intimidating figure – and we know that D’Onofrio’s Fisk was both of those things.
Of course, it would be a major reveal if “Uncle” really is Wilson Fisk as it would officially tie the MCU to the Netflix Daredevil series and it will no doubt increase the speculation that Charlie Cox will reprise his role as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Are the rumors about Daredevil‘s return true?
Hawkeye adds new episodes to Disney+ every Wednesday for the next three weeks.
