Black Panther has secrets

Comic book: Black Panther No. 1

T’Challa has always prided himself on thinking two moves ahead of everyone. It’s become a gift and a curse. The good part is it keeps the Nation of Wakanda safe. Whenever enemies attack, he knows who to call and how to defeat them. The problem comes when he doesn’t tell his plan to the rest of Wakanda or his team. It’s a habit he still hasn’t broken.

T’Challa has sent people all over the world in secret to spy on others. Doing it without anyone knowing is bad enough, but it’s even worse that he faked the deaths of those people as well. In issue No. 1 of Black Panther (written by John Ridley), we see the repercussions of those actions.

Why is this important?

T’Challa has gotten away with this type of thing for years. Every so often it comes back to bite him (see New Avengers by Jonathan Hickman and Black Panther: Intergalactic Empire Of Wakanda by Ta-Nehisi Coates). This will be no different, especially with Wakanda being a democracy now. Once Prime Minister Folasade learns this secret, T’Challa could lose his title and more. If this happens, who knows how the Avengers will react. He’s likely spying on them too.
