What were the best comic book and superhero TV shows of 2021?

It’s been quite the year for television. With the vast majority of TV shows off the air in 2020, 2021 saw many of them return to screens for the first time in months. And considering everything happening in the world, people were happy for the escapism that their favorite TV shows could provide them with.

For the comic book genre, it’s been a rather unusually monumental year as well. So what were the best comic book and superhero TV shows 2021 had to offer?

For starters, many of the long-running DC TV shows that took up residence in fans’ lives started to return early on this year, with the likes of The Flash, Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow all returning for new seasons, Supergirl returning for its final season and Superman and Lois premiering its debut season.

It’s been a while since Marvel has been able to compete with DC on the small screen, but that drought ended this year when the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to the small screen through an abundance of Disney Plus TV shows that took the world by storm, with WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki all breaking records for the streamer.

But with 2022 in sight, we now have an opportunity to look back at what came before. Which of 2021’s new and returning TV shows reign supreme as the genre’s best of the best?
