Hawkeye was something of a surprise. Fans of the MCU’s resident archer had been calling for the character to headline his own project for a decade now, and it finally came in the form of a six-part series on Disney Plus. Even then, it wasn’t one of the more eagerly-awaited TV shows on the horizon, with the likes of Loki, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk all sounding more exciting on paper. And then the trailer dropped.
The beauty of Hawkeye is that it’s a holiday-themed offering, and if you’re familiar with movies in that vein, you’ll know that there is often a comedic double act at the forefront of them (think Jingle All The Way) and a “get this done before Christmas” story at their heart. The series ticks all of those boxes and more, delivering an outrageously fun, meaningful and ambitious adventure far more light-hearted than any project starring the MCU’s broody archer had any right to be.
Clint Barton’s reluctant hero pairs well with the youthful energy of Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and the pair are every bit as efficient as they are awkward. And perhaps the most exciting thing about it is that it’s probably only the beginning of Kate’s role in the MCU. Young Avengers, anyone?
Festive fun for the holidays, Hawkeye is an adventure worth your time!
