Superman and Lois

Superman and Lois was both the most anticipated offering to come out of the Arrowverse in recent years and one of the most unusual. While fans had been calling for Supergirl‘s Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch to lead their own spin-off series for some time, some were convinced that it had finally been greenlit too late and that its unusual decision to focus on a different aspect of the pair’s lives (as both working and superhero parents) would divide people. How wrong those concerns were.

The DC TV series debuted in February of this year to universal acclaim, with its high quality production values, movie-level CGI and mature writing all setting it apart from not just every other show on The CW but every other Superman adaptation that has come before it. Its best quality, however, is its heart. Hoechlin and Tulloch are better than ever as the veteran heroes struggling to balance being parents with saving the world, while actors Alex Garfin and Jordan Elsass round out the Kent/Lane family beautifully as Clark and Lois’ struggling kids.

It’s only been one season and there is already a case to be made for Superman & Lois being the finest adaptation of the titular pair thus far. An overly ambitious statement to make? Absolutely, but no more ambitious than the mammoth task of doing them justice that this show has already tried – and succeeded at – doing.

Season 2 is coming in January 2022 and it can’t come quick enough!
