Hawkeye’s finale left viewers in need of some answers. Thankfully, we have some.

Hawkeye has quickly found itself becoming a regular part of people’s lives. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series is the fifth Marvel Studios show of this year to earn itself a place in the hearts and minds of MCU fans and it has succeeded in both furthering the overarching story of the MCU and preparing fans for the holiday season.

The most recent episode of the Disney Plus series was the season finale and it was a major talking point for many reasons, particularly as it featured the official return of Vincent D’Onofrio’s iconic Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin.

However, the character had quite the tricky time during his debut in the MCU and in a surprising turn of events it has left fans a little concerned about his future.

Is this the last we’ve seen of him already?

Is Kingpin dead in the MCU after Hawkeye?

The last we saw of the Kingpin, he was still reeling after being bested on multiple occasions by Kate Bishop. Struggling to escape, he was met by none other than Maya Lopez (a.k.a. Echo), the woman he saw as his daughter who had finally discovered that he was the one who had her real father killed. And as the camera panned up, Maya drew a gun on Fisk and fired it, with the sound of something – or someone – dropping to the ground soon afterwards.

Has Maya killed off the Kingpin already? It certainly looks that way, but that is actually highly unlikely. Knowing how long fans have waited for not just the Kingpin’s introduction, but D’Onofrio’s reprisal of the role, it would be a mistake to kill him off so soon – especially when he hasn’t even interacted with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil yet.

The more likely option is that Maya actually shot Fisk in the eye, as that is what happened in the pages of Marvel Comics when she discovered that he was responsible for her father’s death there as well.

Vincent D’Onofrio, of course, portrayed Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin, in the hit Netflix series Daredevil. While it was always believed to be an extension of the MCU, it was never confirmed if the beloved series was actually canon. D’Onofrio’s appearance may not yet have confirmed that, but it does highlight that these versions of the characters are indeed the definitive ones, and with Charlie Cox’s debut as Matt Murdock on the horizon, it’s good to know that the Netflix Marvel characters could very well have a home in the MCU.

With that, expect to see more of the Kingpin going forward.

All six episodes of Hawkeye season 1 are now available on Disney Plus.
