Number 8: What If…?

What If…? isn’t the first animated Marvel property we have had. There have been others in the past, the X-Men cartoon of the nineties is the first to come to mind, but it is the first animated property in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

One of the best parts of What If…? was watching familiar stories we all knew so well play out in completely different ways than what we already knew. It was very refreshing to see new spins on some of our old favorites.

What If…? was immensely entertaining, but the series had two issues. The first was simply the medium it was being told in. With the series being animated, it never really felt like it was an actual part of the MCU despite the fact we have been told otherwise. If we see ramifications of events in What If…? play out in a live action series or movie, it might make it feel more connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The other issue What If…? had was there was so much story being told in 30 minute segments, it often made for a difficult story to follow. This wasn’t a show you could come into with little to no knowledge of the MCU because it made the assumption you would know how to fill in the blanks at times.

Still, What If…? was a lot of fun. There were some really stand out moments, and the final two episodes were brilliantly done. It should be a fun second season whenever Disney Plus ends up releasing it.
