It’s no secret that throughout all the different iterations of Spider-Man that have been released on the big screen since 2002, three different actresses have brought Aunt May to life.
In the most recent blockbuster Spider-Man blockbusters, Homecoming and Far From Home, Marisa Tomei played Peter Parker’s doting aunt. Tomei made cameos in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame and will again appear in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel. But if you’re looking for a little more Aunt May in December, Tomei’s family comedy Love the Coopers should be a treat.
Like some of the best Christmas movies out there, Love the Coopers centers on a big, dysfunctional family coming together to celebrate the holidays and trying to conceal their problems. Sam (John Goodman) and Charlotte Cooper (Diane Keaton) invite lots of extended family over, only to discover marriages have ended, jobs have been lost, and divorces have been finalized. But by coming together with family, the Coopers discover the importance of the season.
Tomei plays Charlotte’s sister, Emma, who’s something of a wild card at this chaotic holiday celebration. Whether she’s a reliable aunt or a Christmas lush, Tomei is as lovely as Love the Coopers.
