If you have never seen Idris Elba in a movie, then you must not watch many movies. He’s one of the leading movie stars and, not to mention, television stars of the past two decades with more credits than the cast list of an Avengers movie. In fact, Elba has starred as Heimdall in Thor, its two sequels, and two additional Avengers movies. Given his expansive filmography, Elba has also appeared in the musical Christmas rom-com This Christmas, free of superheroes but full of cheer.
This Christmas follows Ma’Dere Whitfield (Loretta Devine) as she gathers her whole family together for a long-overdue reunion during the holidays. As long-kept secrets begin to emerge, the truth forces the family to confront their collective strain and come closer together.
The film, which shares a title with the timeless Christmas song of the same name, earned middling reception from critics but still performed modestly at the box office. You can’t ever go wrong with an uplifting family Christmas movie with cheerful music and, obviously, a little Idris Elba never hurt anybody.
