When you think of the most popular Christmas movies that make the marathon rounds every year, a few heavy hitters come to mind. Elf, The Grinch, The Holiday, and — of course — Love Actually.
The star-studded 2003 romantic comedy is an indisputable staple that, much like many classics (modern or otherwise), continues to gain visibility as the years and conversations go on. While it might be a stretch for Marvel fans to watch Love Actually just to see Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther co-star Martin Freeman, he’s definitely a selling point for the engaging rom-com.
Love Actually comes from director Richard Curtis, who also wrote films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, About Time, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones’s Diary. The romantic comedy centers on nine intertwined stories that take a closer look at love and its various complications around Christmastime.
In spite of mixed reception from critics, Love Actually brought in over $248 million worldwide and landed a Golden Globe nomination. More than anything, the holiday favorite has maintained a strong following nearly 20 years later thanks in part to its impressive cast.
