Marvel: How these new and upcoming Disney Plus shows can succeed

Marvel Zombies
Be like the comic
When this writer heard that there were going to be zombies in What If…? he thought they’d be more like they were in the Marvel Comics series. Unfortunately, they weren’t. Their powers and most of their intelligence remained, but the characters lacked the extra oomph that made their comic book counterparts fun. They were just zombies and people can get that on any streaming platform. It works for one episode of What If…?. If this is going to be an entire series, however, the premise will get old quickly.
There is hope, though, and it comes from following in the footsteps of the comics. First, the Marvel zombies are funny. They insult each other in ways that’s unlike anything we’re used to seeing. The unexpected nature of their comments adds to the allure. You never know what to expect.
That leads us to the second part. They lack most of the empathy they once had. It’s so bad that Spider-Man ate MJ and Aunt May. Sure, he still cries about it (which annoys Luke Cage), but it works. It shows that some parts of their personality remain the same.
Lastly, this should go without saying, but this is an adult show. Making this accessible for all ages would undermine the concept. It’s mature content, so Marvel Zombies could be one of the first Marvel Studios programs to have a more mature rating.
