2. Bumblebee

Rotten Tomatoes Rating:

  • Critics: 90%
  • Audience: 74%

Bumblebee did what many people once was thought to be impossible. It proved that you could actually make a good Transformers movie.

Bumblebee is a prequel to the previous four Transformers movies, and it showed that a movie about gigantic robots disguised as planes and cars could actually tell a story. The key was it had to focus more on storytelling and less on the big gigantic robots which sell the films.

John Cena continued to develop as an actor with his portrayal of Agent Burns in Bumblebee. Agent Burns was easily the most complex character Cena had played to this point in his career.

Make no mistake, this was the breakout film for another actor in the film, that being Hailee Steinfeld. She was a star in the making, and Bumblebee solidified that status.

But with an exceptional performance from John Cena in the film, it allowed Steinfeld to truly shine. Bumblebee proved once again that Cena was more than just a no talent action star.

Bumblebee was also a big hit at the box office. The movie had a budget of $135 million and took in $468 million worldwide.

You’re always welcome to make your own justification about the quality of a movie. Bumblebee can currently be rented on Amazon Prime Video.
