Justice U: John Diggle returns to lead new Arrowverse series at The CW
David Ramsey will reprise his role as John Diggle in a new Arrowverse series at The CW titled Justice U. Will he become Green Lantern?
The Arrowverse lives, and so does The CW, apparently. With reports of the network being sold in the near-future, there have also been claims that its end is nigh. But it seems that rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated because, sold or not, there will be a future for it as there are a multitude of projects in the works – one of which is another offshoot of its most successful franchise.
As revealed by Deadline, Justice U, a new DC Arrowverse series is in development at The CW and it will be led by Arrow‘s David Ramsey. The star, who portrayed John Diggle on the originator of the network’s shared universe of superheroes, will bring the beloved character back in this series as he takes on a new mission.
That mission will entail recruiting five young metahumans “to live undercover as freshmen at a prestigious university. There he will oversee their education and train them to become the heroes of tomorrow.”
If picked up to series, Ramsey would also direct the pilot. This comes after he previously directed episodes of Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman and Superman and Lois. A recent deal he signed allowed him to return to direct episodes of all shows (bar the first since it had concluded its run), as well as appearing in a guest-role on each.
Will John Diggle become Green Lantern in the Arrowverse on Justice U?
One question that Arrowverse fans have had for the longest of times is in relation to whether John Diggle will become Green Lantern.
The Arrow series finale certainly made it look like that would happen, but every one of Ramsey’s guest-returns since have portrayed Diggle as hesitant in taking up the mantle. That is, until his most recent return on Supergirl made it seem as if he had decided against it, until Kelly Olsen’s ascension to the role of Guardian convinced him that “Worlds Await”.
With Diggle now returning to his mentoring role in Justice U, there are questions about whether we will ever see him put on the green ring. That being said, the likelihood is that we will one day see him become the Lantern on the show. After all, what’s the point in bringing the character back only to avoid the fate you promised him?
It will happen someday, but will it be Justice U that gives it to us?
