Ever since Mary was dragged behind a bush by a vine in Batwoman season 3, episode 3 “Freeze,” the question of when Poison Ivy would arrive on the scene has been lingering in the air.

In a delightful twist, our dear doctor has stepped into the role as Poison Mary. However, those who were aware of Bridget Regan’s casting as Pamela Isley knew that the original daughter of nature would be making her way back to Gotham at some point.

In yet another twist, the midseason premiere, “Trust Destiny,” revealed that Poison Ivy had never actually left the city. Renee Montoya, her lost love, had explained that her team-up with Batman led to her stabbing Pam with a serum that would desiccate her body but not kill her.

Their goal was to keep Ivy from hurting anyone as Pam’s infection had turned her into an eco-terrorist who prized plant life and the planet over humanity. She’d been devising a plan that involved a dam break and ridding Gotham of its toxic waste even at the cost of lives lost.

In order to prevent this, Batman convinced Montoya that desiccating Pam was the only course of action. He vowed to lock her away from sunlight and water to ensure Ivy wasn’t resurrected and that the city would remain intact and safe.

Batman, however, didn’t tell Montoya where he planned to hide the love of her life. Turns out, he put her closer to home than anyone would have guessed.

Where is Poison Ivy’s body in Batwoman season 3?

Spoilers ahead of Batwoman season 3, episode 8

There’s always been oddly placed plant growth in the batcave. It’s a feature of the setting that’s had no real reason to be there other than aesthetic until “Trust Destiny.”

Montoya has spent a decade wondering where Pam is only to find her in Batman’s lair. It was a revelation that took her, Ryan, and Sophie by surprise. The plant growth has been Ivy this entire time. She’s been housed deep in the bowels of the cave’s tunnels, away from sunlight and water just like Batman said he’d ensure.

But by the end of the midseason premiere, Montoya successfully awakened her lost love with a kiss. After years of excruciating guilt and heartache, she’d decided to rectify what she considers to be her greatest mistake: betraying her soulmate and living only for her badge as a consequence.

It’s a twist none of the characters saw coming except for Alice who delighted in leading Sophie to the conclusion instead of just telling her what she knew from the beginning. Though that’s not surprising, the fanciful serial killer loves a delicious reveal.
