Stargirl season 3 is not coming to The CW in January 2022

DC’s Stargirl season 3 will make its presence felt on The CW in 2022, but don’t be expecting it to air anytime soon.

DC’s Stargirl was one of the biggest TV hits in recent memory. A DC Universe original series, the show started out by releasing new episodes on the streaming service every Monday, with those same episodes then airing on The CW the following night (in the coveted Tuesday night timeslot usually held by The Flash). Following the service’s rebranding as a comics-only service, Stargirl was officially moved to The CW for its second season.

Season 2 of Stargirl aired on TV last summer, debuting almost exactly one year after the first season concluded, and it successfully managed to recapture everything that made its predecessor so beloved, all while holding its own in the ratings department as well.

So, after defeating the Injustice Society of America and Eclipso, what’s next for Courtney Whitmore and the Justice Society of America? Why, season 3, of course!

The show was renewed for a third season before its second even began airing, and now it’s just a matter of figuring out when it will premiere on screens. One time we shouldn’t expect it to premiere, though, is this spring. The network’s midseason schedule has been confirmed and unfortunately, Stargirl is not listed among the returning shows. But when will it be back?

Stargirl season 3 release date

Stargirl season 3 will premiere sometime in 2022. The season 2 finale confirmed that the third season, titled Stargirl: Frenemies, would arrive this year.

While an official premiere date has not yet been announced, production commenced in October 2021. Given that the second season, Stargirl: Summer School, started production at the same time of year and arrived in August, a summer release is likely for season 3.

Since its debut, Stargirl has performed well for The CW as a summer series, allowing comic book fans to enjoy another superhero series whenever the regular Arrowverse programming is off screens for the summer hiatus.
