Black Panther 2: Brian Tee suits up as Namor in stunning image
By Cody Schultz
Fans are eager to see Namor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and we have a look at what actor Brian Tee could look like in the role via incredible concept art.
If there is one thing that Marvel has done well over the years, it’s bringing the many characters from the pages of Marvel Comics to life via the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Across the franchise’s more than 23+ films and counting, Marvel has introduced fans to several incredible characters with an amazing array of heroes, villains and antiheroes ripped from the pages of the comics with flawless on-screen adaptations.
While there have been many incredible characters introduced within the Marvel Cinematic Universe films and Disney Plus series, that doesn’t mean there haven’t been some major glaring omissions.
Some of the comic franchise’s popular characters have been left sidelined due to rights issues — take for example the Fantastic Four or X-Men, who previously existed via their own franchises outside of the MCU — but many others have been MIA for far less understandable reasons.
Among these characters is Namor, one of Marvel’s most beloved antiheroes whose origins date all the way back to 1939.
Who is Namor in Marvel Comics?
Namor is the son of an Atlantean princess and a human, who possesses a laundry list of abilities that includes superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility and durability in addition to the ability to breath underwater, communicate with marine life, fly and control the element vision among other things. In other words, he’s basically one of the strongest beings in the Marvel universe.
The character is one that fans have long wished to see within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and have been fan-casting from the moment the MCU first launched. While there have been a few actors whose names have come up over the years, one that continues to be a favorite among MCU fans is Chicago Med‘s very own Brian Tee.
What Brian Tee could look like as Namor in the MCU
Although Marvel has not yet announced when or if the character will be coming to the MCU, with help from digital artist ApexForm has given us the chance to see what Brian Tee could look like as Namor if given the chance!
In the jaw-dropping art, Tee is transformed into Namor the Sub-Mariner rocking an updated version of the character’s signature suit which has clearly been inspired by the Black Panther costume designs. Tee looks amazing in the image and after checking the image our it’s not hard to see why fans are eager to see the Chicago Med actor step into the role when Marvel eventually brings him into the fold.
Will Brian Tee play Namor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
At this time, Marvel has not announced any casting decisions so it’s impossible to know who they might tap to play the role of Namor in the MCU. That said, it seems Brian Tee is quite interested in playing the role which is an incredibly positive sign for those hoping he might suit up as Namor in the MCU!
During an interview with Comic Book back in 2017, Tee made it 100% that he was interested in playing the first Mutant going as far as to confess that the chance to play the character of Namor would be a dream come true and absolute honor.
"“You know what’s funny is my career I’ve kind of played villains, guys with attitude, guys with chips on their shoulders, um, in reading the comics books and being a fan of Namor, that’s kind of this guy’s persona. Even though he’s a hero or a quote unquote good guy. He’s kind of a bit of an anti-hero with a bit of an edge, and I feel like I kind of fall in that line, especially with other things that I’ve done. So that’s the kind of aspect that I would love to bring into Namor. He’s not just like a good guy, you know, he’s definitely got some faults of his own, but I think when it really boils down to doing the right thing he will, and you know it’s Namor, it’s Marvel, it’s the first Mutant, it’s everything you can kind of dreamed of as a kid and wanted to portray, and so I would absolutely love and be honored to play him if the time does come around, and I thank you guys for the movement!”"
As Chicago Med fans know, Tee definitely has the acting chops — and yes, the physique — to bring the iconic antihero to life in the MCU. The fact that he’s interested in the role definitely bodes well for fans who are hoping he might take on the role, as not every actor is as eager to join the superhero hype train.
Let’s hope Marvel is taking note of fans’ continued cries for Namor to join the MCU and their desire to see Tee play the character, as we’d love to see him get the chance to take on his dream role — and the MCU would be lucky to have him!
