Agents of SHIELD star reacts to revival campaign: Will the Marvel series return?
Former Agents of SHIELD turned Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett actor, Ming-Na Wen responds to a live-and-loud fan campaign to revive the ABC show.
As per Deadline, The Book of Boba Fett star Ming-Na Wen has responded to a campaign to #SaveAgentsofSHIELD on social media as fans rallied to bring back the ABC show.
Wen formerly played Melinda May aka The Cavalry on the Marvel series. The character is an extremely adept SHIELD operative, veteran pilot and solider, recruited by Nick Fury to assemble a team for a resurrected Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) following the events of the Battle of New York. She took part in several missions on Coulson’s team and became an advisor to Coulson while fighting against the sinister HYDRA organization.
Discussing the fan campaign, Wen told Deadline:
"“I love that our small fan base is getting bigger and bigger, because I think people are starting to re-watch all the episodes and realizing what a wonderful series it was and I love the fans and the fans’ reactions.”"
When asked about the potential of the show coming back, Wen simply said “Fingers crossed. Who knows?”.
Is Agents of SHIELD getting a revival?
The #SaveAgentsofSHIELD campaign dominated social media at the beginning of January after the resurgence of previous Marvel TV projects due to both Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Speaking of the former, one of the reasons it picked up steam was the closing moments of Marvel’s Hawkeye on Disney Plus when it was revealed that Laura Barton (Linda Cardellini) – the wife of Clint Barton/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) – was formerly known as Agent 19 aka Mockingbird.
The reveal shot down any possibility that Bobbi Morse, who was played by Adrianne Palicki, was the original Mockingbird and implied that Agents of SHIELD may not be considered canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (even though it was once upon a time) – a reveal which divided fans of Agents of SHIELD.
Since Agents of SHIELD was produced by ABC Studios, Marvel Television (before it was folded into Marvel Studios) and Mutant Enemy Productions, the show, which referenced events within the MCU, is now seemingly considered to take place in its own timeline.
Could it return, though? With Marvel Studios now producing its own television on Disney Plus, the same network that houses Agents of SHIELD, there is definitely a possibility. As for whether it will happen, that remains to be seen.
