Is The Book of Boba Fett canceled?

The Book of Boba Fett was the first major Disney Plus show of 2022, but will it be back for another season or will it be a one-and-done for the Star Wars series?

Disney Plus has dominated the streaming landscape since its arrival in 2019, and it took that to new heights in 2021 with its revolutionary Marvel Studios shows. But let’s not forget that it all started for the streamer with a Star Wars series in the uber-popular The Mandalorian.

After two successful seasons, the small screen Star Wars franchise was spun off into another series in The Book of Boba Fett. Premiering at the end of 2021 on the service, it saw Temuera Morrison reprise his iconic role as the bounty hunter for his own standalone adventure.

As expected given the streamer and the franchise, there was a lot of hype surrounding The Book of Boba Fett‘s Disney Plus release. And yet, with its finale closing the book on the first season, we don’t know anything about what the future holds for the show beyond that.

Is The Book of Boba Fett season 2 happening?

The good news is that The Book of Boba Fett has definitely not been canceled. Yes, some fans have been understandably concerned about the future of the show given that there hasn’t been any official confirmation of a second season, but it’s important to remember that we are talking about the Star Wars series here.

Granted, reception to The Book of Boba Fett wasn’t as overwhelmingly positive as the reception to its predecessor, but the show did find its footing as it went on, and fans acknowledged that. Even more importantly than that, it was a major topic of conversation on social media in the days after new episodes dropped and its recent connections to the wider Star Wars franchise have been met with acclaim from fans and critics.

With that said, we should expect something of a wait before Disney Plus announces the fate of the series. With the exception of Loki and What If…? (the latter of which had already been renewed before the first season aired), the streaming service usually takes time before announcing renewals and / or cancelations. Another positive thing to remember is that Disney Plus rarely cancels its shows, so statistically the odds are in the favor of the series.

There is the possibility that The Book of Boba Fett might follow in the footsteps of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in being a limited series, but that has yet to be confirmed. And given how vast the Star Wars galaxy is, it does feel like there could be more stories for Boba Fett and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) still to tell.
