Elizabeth Henstridge speaks on the possibility of her ever reprising her Agents of SHIELD role as Jenna Simmons in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was an important show for Marvel for a couple of reasons. First, it was the first Marvel TV show set within the ongoing continuity. At the time it seemed like that continuity was the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that has been disputed more and more as it went on. Needless to say, without its success, we may not have the multiple Netflix and Disney Plus programs that came after it.

Second of all, it proved that every show didn’t need a major comic book character to headline it. This allowed Phil Coulson, Melinda May, and Daisy Johnson to become popular TV characters.

Alongside the three just mentioned, there was Jemma Simmons, played by Elizabeth Henstridge, who became one of the most popular characters on the show. Jemma and her science partner (and eventual husband) Leo Fitz became one of the best “will they won’t they” partnerships on TV.

With Jemma still being alive when the show wrapped its seven season run, fans wanted to know if she would make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, perhaps in a future project.

To that, the Agents of SHIELD star told ComicBook.com

"“I’m satisfied with how it ended. I think at the end of season five we thought that that was it and then to get two more seasons was just such a joy and I feel like we so much. I loved how it ended. I didn’t think that I would ever feel ready to walk away from that show, and I think the writers did a really great job.”"

However, there is hope for fans of Jemma Simmons. When she was asked if she was happy about her ending and if she’d reprise her role, she said, “Yes to both.” She also said,

"“I’m so proud of that final episode and I think, yeah, we left it in a beautiful spot. But equally, I loved being on that show, I loved the family, I loved playing Simmons, so yeah, I’d always be open to reprising the role, definitely.”"

Could Elizabeth Henstridge return as Jemma Simmons in the MCU’s future?

There will always be a place for Jemma Simmons in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For example, she could be a consultant for one of the many heroes that need gadgets or tech support. And she wouldn’t just have to pop up in one episode and leave. She could be a recurring character, appearing across MCU projects.

What about a show on Disney Plus with her husband? Who wouldn’t want to see The Adventures of Fitz and Simmons? Actually, a show with Jemma alone would work really well too. She has that kind of personality and she’s that popular with the fans.

Either way, MCU would gladly have Elizabeth Henstridge back as Jemma Simmons. Here’s hoping it happens one day!
