Peacemaker renewed for a second season at HBO Max

James Gunn, John Cena, Danielle Brooks and co will return as Peacemaker season 2 is a go at HBO Max. 

Peacemaker made waves as the first big comic book show of 2022 and now it will return for a second installment.

The HBO Max original series was a spin-off of DCEU film The Suicide Squad, with director James Gunn returning to write all eight episodes (and direct most of them too). Focusing on John Cena’s titular antihero, it saw Peacemaker recruited by Amanda Waller as part of a black ops unit to track down and exterminate a threat the government had labelled as “Butterflies”.

Praised for its off-the-wall characters and concept, witty humor and truly striking emotional moments, Peacemaker quickly won over viewers, even those who didn’t particularly connect with the character in The Suicide Squad.

With the finale on the horizon, the good news has come that HBO Max has renewed the show for a second season.

Peacemaker will return for season 2

The announcement came on Wednesday, February 16, ahead of the season 1 finale as both Gunn and series star John Cena took to social media to share the news. This time around Gunn will write and direct all episodes.

As the first original DC show to have its series premiere on HBO Max, we are thrilled that the viewers agreed to give peace a f***ing chance.”"

News of a second season was always welcome, but it isn’t exactly a surprise given how popular the series turned out to be. After the show premiered to highly positive reviews, Gunn believed that there was a very good chance of Peacemaker returning for season 2.

As for when that will happen, it remains unclear. But fans of the show can now rest assured that Christopher Smith, Leota Adebayo, Vigilante, Emilia Harcourt, John Economos and, of course, Eagly will all be back for another bizarre adventure.
