The Flash star teases the return of the Reverse-Flash, but how will it happen?
The Flash star Jesse L. Martin reveals that Eobard Thawne aka the Reverse-Flash will make his inevitable return but, though, in what capacity?
The Flash season 8 took a three-month break after the five-episode event known as “Armageddon” concluded in December 2021. That event dealt heavily with the return of Eobard Thawne, a.k.a. the Reverse-Flash. And now, it seems that won’t be the last we see of him either.
While appearing on The Talk (H/T: Screen Rant), Flash vet Jesse L. Martin teased that a certain Man in Yellow could return at some point throughout the show’s run, adding that anyone who is a fan of Tom Cavanagh’s Reverse-Flash should “get ready”.
Fate of Eobard Thawne aka Reverse-Flash
During the fifth and final chapter of the “Armageddon” crossover event, Barry and Team Flash erased Eobard Thwane’s Reverse-Flashpoint timeline from existence. However, due to his actions, the evil speedster was fading from existence and needed to be saved.
Barry ultimately decided to drain the Negative Speed Force out of his arch-nemesis in order to preserve his life – and thus his presence in space-time. He was then escorted to ARGUS prison to be locked up for his crimes and for all the suffering he has caused.
Over on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, it was revealed that another version of Thawne (Matt Letscher) had been resurrected by the Time Wraiths following his death at the hands of Black Flash, stripped of his powers, and sent to 1914 to relive every day to ensure the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (resulting in a world war) at the fixed point.
How will the Reverse-Flash return on The Flash?
With the fate of the version of Thawne (Letscher) seen on Legends apparently sealed and the Flash version (Cavanagh) imprisoned at ARGUS during the present day, the question is not about when he will return but how and in what capacity? There is no doubt that Thawne will find some way of restoring his powers and enacting his revenge, but could it be that Letscher, who played the original Reverse-Flash before he adopted Harrison Wells appearance, was back in the Arrowverse for a reason.
Besides, the creative still have to fulfill one promise to fans and that is the moment where Barry and Thawne visit the past on the night Nora Allen was murdered – the night that both young Barry and the Barry from 2015 (a.k.a. season 1) witnessed his future self in action.
Whether he comes back in the form of Wells (Cavanagh) or the true Thawne (Letscher) or another face entirely remains to be seen but it will be incredibly fascinating to see how and when he will be back before The Flash comes full circle. Maybe we’ll finally learn more about his origins.
