X Lives of Wolverine: Logan gets revenge and Omega Red has a plan

Just when Wolverine thought he had it all figured out, Omega Red went and changed the plan.

X Lives of Wolverine has given readers the chase of a lifetime. This isn’t just two people going from one place to the next due to hate. That’s been done many times before. They have a mission that can directly affect the future.

We’ve seen Logan as a teenager, guerilla soldier, and in Japan with his deceased wife Itsu to save Xavier. Meanwhile, Arkady Gregorivich Rossovich, a.k.a. Omega Red, inhabits the body of friends and family members of Xavier’s past.

The Marvel story been a bloody, exciting chase so far and this issue was no different.

Wolverine vs Moby-Red

When we last saw Arkady, he was in two places. First, he was on a boat trying to kill another of Xavier’s past relatives. Thankfully, Charles wasn’t helpless. This Xavier more than handled himself against Arkady in all forms. That was until Arkady literally inhabited a white whale. At that point, Wolverine stepped in and killed Moby Red. A funny, but incredible moment.

The second trip was a bit different. Arkady tried something new by inhabiting the body of Logan’s wife. He knew Logan wouldn’t kill her. First o0f all, it’s his wife; one of the many people that he’s loved and lost. Secondly, she was pregnant with Daken. That put Wolverine in a difficult situation.

In a weird stroke of luck, however, Romulus showed up to kill Itsu. Logan focused on him and sent Romulus packing. This then led to Logan having to get back on track since Arkady was no longer in Istu’s body.

While this was going on, this writer forgot that Logan was trying to protect Xavier in another part of history. There, Logan finally got to him, but Jean Grey can’t find Arkady’s mind. The last page reveals why: Arkady is inside Logan’s body and ready to strike.

X of Questions

• Omega Red becoming a whale was the silliest thing part of this series so far. Nevertheless, totally worth it.
• Seeing Wolverine beat Romulus down was perfect. He deserved that beating.
• Omega Red confirms he isn’t doing this out of Russian patriotism. It makes this writer think that he’s going to switch sides.
• How is Logan going to fight back against Omega Red in his own body? Is seeing Logan like this the reason Charles Xavier wanted to recruit him (see X-Men/Wolverine: Original Sin by Daniel Way for more on that).
